To mark his eightieth birthday in October, painter Etienne Geeurickx is organizing an exhibition at Villa Servais. For the artist, this exhibition means more than an artistic milestone: it marks a special return to the “castle” where he spent several formative years as a child.
Even at a young age, he became fascinated by the work of sculptor Cyprien Godebski, son-in-law of François Servais. The refined medallions and bas-reliefs on the facade, later supplemented by the marble busts, made a lasting impression on the young artist. He still considers the statue of François Servais in the Grand Place of Halle to be the impressive highlight of Godebski’s oeuvre. Exhibition

As a classically trained portraitist, Etienne Geeurickx believes that Cyprien Godebski also deserves a
visible place within the walls of Villa Servais. Based on this conviction,
he is donating a portrait of the artist created by him to the Villa.
In addition to this special tribute, the exhibition also presents a selection of
Geeurickx’s later work: lyrical-abstract impressions of nature in which memory,
the experience of nature, and imagination come together.
